Cell Engineering

Under the umbrella of strategic research domain entitled ‘3D Disease Cancer Models’, we carry out the work in the scope of “Cell Engineering”, develop hierarchical 3D biomaterial platform embedding both cancerous (human osteosarcoma cells) and non-cancerous cells (human adipose derived stem cells) to recapitulate physiological cancerous niche. Cancer cell microenvironment is a multicomponent complex system containing structural proteinaceous network of collagen type 1. With advancement of the disease, there is increased amount of polysaccharide in certain cancerous niche which results in a “glucose signature” on cancer cell surface. To engineer the cell behavior, a library of polysaccharide-protein hierarchical assembly is presently under investigation to elucidate the early cancer biomarkers for disease prevention.
